Motorbike Insurance, Deposit and Rental Terms in Bali

Insurance is not included in the base rental price. We offer comprehensive cover as a paid add-on: it covers damage to the bike, third-party liability and medical expenses in an accident. We strongly recommend taking it, and this page explains why.

What the base price covers

Every rental, from a 150,000 IDR scooter to a million-rupiah sport bike, includes:

What it does not include is financial protection if the bike is damaged, stolen, or if you injure someone. That is what the insurance add-on is for.

What the insurance add-on covers

The exact price depends on the bike, because the exposure on a 1000cc sport bike is nothing like the exposure on a scooter. Ask us for the figure for the specific model when you book — it is a small fraction of the daily rate.

Why we push this harder than most

Because the maths is brutal without it. Bali's roads mix scooters, trucks, dogs and tourists on their first ride; the most common incidents are low-speed, nobody's fault in particular, and still expensive. A dropped bike with a cracked fairing costs more to repair than several weeks of rental. A collision that injures someone else opens up a liability you do not want to be carrying personally in a foreign country.

One thing worth being blunt about: insurance only works if you were riding legally. If you ride without an International Driving Permit with a motorcycle category, cover is void — ours and your travel insurance from home. That is not a technicality anyone waives after the fact. See our page on licences and the IDP.

Deposits and rental terms

Every rental is covered by an official written contract, and the terms — including any deposit arrangement — are agreed with you before the bike is handed over. We do not hold your passport. If you want the exact terms for a specific bike and rental period before you commit, ask on WhatsApp and we will send them.

If something goes wrong

Breakdown. Call us. Roadside assistance runs 24 hours: we repair the bike where it is, or bring you a replacement at no extra cost, depending on the situation.

Accident. Get yourself safe first, then call us before arranging anything with anyone else. Photograph the scene, the bikes and any damage. Do not settle on the spot with another party before speaking to us — it complicates the claim and it usually costs you more, not less.

Theft. Report it to us and to the police immediately; a police report is required for any claim. Practically: use the lock, park in paid parking where there is an attendant, and never leave the key in the bike outside a warung "just for a minute".

How we reduce the risk before you ride

Every bike is serviced and inspected after each rental period rather than on a fixed schedule, which is what catches worn tyres, tired brake pads and loose chains before they become someone's problem. Tyres are replaced with proper brands rather than the cheapest option. It is why our fleet holds a 4.9 rating across 375 Google reviews — and it is a large part of what you are paying for over a 50,000 IDR street rental.

Common questions

Is insurance included in the rental price?

No. It is a paid optional add-on covering damage to the bike, third-party liability and medical expenses.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the model — ask us for the figure for the bike you want. It is a small share of the daily rate.

Is insurance valid without an IDP?

No. Riding without a licence valid for that vehicle voids the cover completely.

Do I have to leave a deposit or my passport?

We do not hold passports. Terms including any deposit are set out in the rental contract and agreed before handover.

What do I do if the bike breaks down?

Call us — 24/7 roadside assistance, with repair on the spot or a replacement bike at no extra charge.

Is a helmet included?

Yes, with every rental. Helmets are compulsory by law in Bali for the rider and the passenger.
