Canggu is built around a handful of parallel lanes — Batu Bolong, Berawa, Pererenan, Padang Linjong — and they are narrow, busy and often gridlocked in the afternoon. A car turns a ten-minute hop into forty minutes; a scooter gets through and parks anywhere. That is why almost everyone staying here, from a week to half a year, ends up on a bike.
The trade-off is that Canggu traffic is genuinely dense, with dogs, potholes, delivery riders and tourists on their first ever ride. Take the first day slowly, stay off the main strip during sunset hours, and ride like nobody has seen you.

Insurance is not part of the base price. Comprehensive cover for damage to the bike, third-party liability and medical expenses is available as a paid add-on, and we recommend taking it.
Documents you need
An International Driving Permit with a motorcycle category, together with your home country licence and your passport. Carry them whenever you ride — police checks near Canggu and on the Sunset Road are routine, and riding without an IDP is both a fine and a reason for any insurance to refuse a claim.
Where to ride from Canggu
Canggu sits in a convenient spot: the coast runs west towards Tanah Lot and Balian, and the road inland climbs to Ubud and further to the volcanoes.
- Tanah Lot — about 30 minutes west along quiet back roads through rice fields. Best in the late afternoon.
- Ubud — roughly an hour inland. Skip the main road and take the smaller lanes through Mengwi; the riding is far better.
- Uluwatu and the Bukit — an hour and a half south. Wide, fast roads once you clear the airport bypass.
- Mount Batur and Kintamani — a full day out, cool at altitude and worth an early start. A 250cc or bigger makes the climb much more comfortable than a scooter.

Practical notes for Canggu
Fuel is easy: proper Pertamina stations sit on the main roads, and roadside stalls sell it by the bottle if you are caught short. Parking is paid and cheap almost everywhere — a few thousand rupiah, cash. Rain comes hard and fast in the wet season, so keep a poncho under the seat. And when you park at the beach, take the key and anything loose with you.
